Not impregnation is a biocidal impregnation that is used on farmed nots to keep the net clean from growth such as algae, mussels and hydroids. A biocide is a chemical or microorganism that can destroy, render harmless, or exert a controlling effect on a harmful organism. A not impregnation must stand still and release a steady concentration of biocides over time to prevent fouling of the nuts.
A not impregnation is not suitable for flushing in the sea, as a larger concentration of biocides will be washed away with each flushing, so that the effect will disappear.
Coatings are biocide-free products that are used on farm nots to make them easier to keep clean. A coating reduces the surface of the not line so that high-pressure washing of the nots at sea becomes easier. A coating is well suited for high pressure washing.
